Vermont Barn

A program consisting of a workshop, petting zoo, horses and gathering room for entertaining generated this incredible new barn in central Vermont. MMA worked closely with the local vocabulary to create a timeless timber frame structure of Douglas Fir with white oak and pine supplement. Carefully detailed horse stalls flank an antique brick promenade while an oak and steel “floating” stair leads to a third level gathering room for family get-togethers that enjoys commanding views of the adjacent mountains. A standing-seam copper roof with twin cupolas sits atop cedar trim and shingles, all anchored by a fieldstone foundation. Multiple egress points, to the north for lower-level utility and to the south for horses at mid-level, provide accessibility to the surrounding paddocks and pastures.
