Bolton House

The Arts & Crafts movement heavily influenced MMA's direction on this 5,000 square foot home in rural Massachusetts. Set into unique rock formations with 360 degree views of metro Boston, southern New Hampshire, and Mt. Wachusett, the house nestles into the ledge by using blasted stone for its base, giving the affect of growing from the rock. Strong massing and natural materials compliment the meandering plan that works to the existing grades and contours. The floor plan thoughtfully slides adjacent spaces to maximize solar exposure and access to spectacular views. The Master Bedroom links to the main house via a glass link to intimate privacy and separation...and to allow its volume to change grades on the site effortlessly.

The interior uses mahogany and stone to reflect a more finished version of the exterior's vocabulary. The finished product is a balance of strength, flexibility, light and texture, thus creating dynamic living for our client.
