Vermont Lodge

Part of a comprehensive estate building and site development program for a past client, MMA Inc., was commissioned to renovate a ten-year old contemporary post-and-beam home for seasonal use. MMA's design team, led by firm associate Anthony Frausto, AIA, brought character and charm to the exterior while addressing several programmatic and technical issues plaguing the original home.

Principal John MacDonald, AIA, counseled the client to understand that the house had "good bones" and could be expanded upon and made over rather than torn down, making more sensible use of our client's budget. A new porte cochere, garage wing, and new fireplace stonework addressed all the client's primary technical requirements.

Making use of existing gables, MMA brought together exposed douglas-fir timbers, plaster, solid carved support brackets, shingles and cedar siding. The combination formed a unique architectural ensemble that recalls the heritage of both American and European vacation lodges.
