Shingle Style Country House

MMA created an instant classic with this shingle-style home located southwest of Boston. Existing on this ten-acre lot was an old brick Georgian that satisfied the lifestyle of yesterday. This new home was created to satisfy the needs of a growing family and to take advantage of this specular site, consisting of a rolling landscape complete with a private pond.

It was readily apparent that any room without a view would be at a disadvantage. Morehouse MacDonald and Associates granted nearly every room a beautiful view by using the circulation spine as a buffer from the front of the house and the drive court. This design positioned most rooms facing the rolling landscape. The added benefit of this feature was the quality of the natural light gathered along the circulation path.

Taking cues from the natural landscape, the house gracefully flows down the hill toward the pond, allowing for a large walk-out basement.

The interior spaces boast 10-foot ceilings and are organized by painted mouldings that flow from one space to another. The kitchen and great room were created to have an open plan, which exemplifies the modern lifestyle of the client. Wide plank, walnut floors contrast painted trim throughout.
