Wellesley Contemporary

This house in Wellesley was acquired by an MMA client who wished to extensively modify and expand it for their young and growing family. The scope included a full gut renovation, basement addition, extensive site development, and new MEP equipment focused on sustainable design technologies for energy savings.

The design team implemented new interiors that were transitional, respecting the general modernist character of the rooflines and plan organization, while subtly reflecting the client’s appreciation of traditional detail. New hand-scraped walnut floors, millwork and beams, and mahogany windows unify a multi-level home that engages the new landscape.

MMA also added two new bedrooms on the second floor that share a dramatic glass floor outside deck designed to bring natural light to the north-facing entrance below, while adding an extensive basement expansion. This addition included a new home-theater, gym, spa, and family entertainment spaces. Finally, the pool room was completely redone, expanding natural light, engaging new stone terraces, redoing changing rooms, and dovetailing with a new bar and kitchenette for guest entertaining.
